Happy Easter!

New portfolio site + future of this newsletter

Hope you had a great Easter weekend.

I have been refining my painterly style nodes. I set it up so it could now have brushstrokes curve along a mesh, and not just a square brushstroke rotated around. I decided to test it on Michelangelo’s Pieta. For the limited time I had, it turned out quite well I think.

I planned to just post it on my old Pixelfed.social portfolio, but I realized it just wasn’t cutting it. No style customization, only one picture per piece (no videos!), and a painful artwork selection UX.

So in the most Thanos way I could, I did it myself.

Thanos meme: "fine, I'll do it myself."

So my new portfolio website is portfolio.spencermagnusson.com! Yep, got a custom subdomain and everything. I built the site with accessibility and minimalism in mind.

I can thank my old web development jobs and college classes for going full HTML/CSS/JS on it. No website designer templates or anything, and no tracking code (I used the no-cookie domains for YouTube embeds, so at least the most I could do there).

The Future of This Newsletter

…is honestly not looking bright.

I love the convenience of a blog, where I’m far more comfortable writing it all out then a video of me just talking. Some content makes more sense in written form.

But subscriber count has not gone up in a while. Many people prefer RSS over emails (if you prefer email, please let me know!), so why bother having it go through email?

And Beehiiv — which is fantastic if you want to do a newsletter, highly recommend — is overkill for most of this stuff.

If you have consumed this newsletter at any point, now is the time to give feedback. Please fill out what you can from this (very short) survey to let me know your thoughts.
